Nana's Secret, Our Story
Nana's Secret Shea Butter Skincare Products was inspired by a daughter's love for her Mother.
My Mother has suffered for years with extremely dry skin, and no skincare products on the market ever seemed to relieve the itching, flaking and dryness she had to deal with. After a recent illness, she had to battle severe eczema. None of the prescribed drugs or prescription creams/ointments gave her any relief.
She was suffering badly and her skin appeared as if she had been in a fire. After researching alternative means of treating severe eczema,
I stumbled across shea butter. This was the solution to my Mother's dry skin and eczema.
Within 24 hours of using shea butter, the itching was subsiding, two weeks later she felt comfortable enough to go out in public again, a month later, her eczema was gone.
Her skin was radiant and she felt free of the dry skin that had plagued her all her life.
I thought, since my Mother found such relief in shea butter, there must be others who could be helped with natural shea butter skincare products.
In trying to come up with a name for the business, I asked my 6 year old daughter what would be a good name. She said, "Nana's Secret." I asked her why Nana's Secret, she replied, "well it was Nana's secret of shea butter right?"
So, Nana's Secret Shea Butter Skincare Products was born.
Through research I had learned that shea butter came from West Africa, however, many European countries were importing it and then cleaning the shea butter with toxic chemicals, which strip it of all it's wonderful natural healing properties and then reselling this chemically treated shea butter to skincare companies.
I knew there had to be a better way and there was. I chose to work with a supplier who imports shea butter directly from West Africa. Where the shea butter is naturally cleaned and refined.
Since the creation of Nana's Secret, shea butter has brought much love into my life. I have met so many wonderful people as a result of Nana's Secret.
Because of this, I have found that when I cannot go that extra step, someone walks into my life that pushes me a step further.
As a mother of two young children, I am blessed to have the unconditional love and support of my family and friends. They remind me daily that, all things happen for a reason and one small voice can make a difference…
